Brooks Hayes joins Davis Waldorf School as the new Gardening Teacher. Brooks has a lifelong interest in gardening and the natural world. Growing up at the foot of the Santa Cruz mountains, Brooks spent much of his time exploring the mountains on foot and bicycle and eventually working on an organic farm and vineyards throughout the mountains. Brooks originally moved to Davis to attend UCD and earned a B.S. in Viticulture and Enology, and after a few years working in the wine industry, returned to Davis to attend graduate school, earning a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology.
Brooks spent the past two decades working in the local biotechnology industry, but in the background, his passion has always been working outdoors on the Hayes family farm with his family, including two children who attend DWS. Apart from tending gardens, chickens, goats, and a small orchard, Brooks enjoys traveling, cooking, welding, and alpine skiing .
