||In fifth and sixth grade, the children continue singing in rounds and parts. They practice playing more complex music, often related to the curriculum, on their diatonic flute or recorder. Some teachers may offer sheet music to support reading musical notation. Alto and tenor recorders may be introduced. Students continue in Strings or may move to Band as an alternate subject class.
In seventh and eighth grade, the children continue singing in parts and playing recorders. Alto and/or tenor recorders are introduced in seventh grade and continued in eighth grade to accompany the soprano recorders. Other instruments may also supplement the musical experience. Students continue in either Strings or Band.
